The Reality of Loyalty in Real Estate
In real estate, loyalty should mean something. When you dedicate months of your time, energy, and expertise to help someone, the least you deserve is a conversation before they decide to move on. Unfortunately, for some people, that’s apparently too much to ask.
Imagine spending months helping a family—making plans, booking a trip, committing your time—only to be blindsided at the last minute with a call that basically says, “Thanks for everything, but we’re going with someone else.” No discussion. No heads-up. Just a complete disregard for all the work you’ve done.
The Reality of Being Disregarded
I get it. People will do what’s convenient for them. Out of sight, out of mind. But let’s be real—real estate agents don’t work for free. When we pour our time into researching, filtering out bad properties, making sure our customers are protected, and guiding them through every step of the process, it’s because we care. And when that effort is tossed aside without a second thought? It’s not just disrespectful—it’s a slap in the face.
And the best part? If they had just told me their plans, I could’ve referred them to their new agent and received a 25% referral fee—more than fair compensation for all the work I put in. But no, why take five seconds to be considerate when you can just leave someone hanging instead?
The Inconvenient Truth About Loyalty
The funny thing about loyalty is that it should go both ways. You expect it from your agent, but where’s your loyalty when it’s time to make decisions? I don’t expect people to stay out of obligation, but basic decency says you communicate before making a switch.
And let’s talk about karma. You can’t mistreat people, take them for granted, and think there won’t be consequences. The truth always catches up—whether in this life or the next. If you’re okay burning bridges with people who’ve been in your corner, don’t be surprised when you find yourself stranded one day.
Moving On
At the end of the day, I know my work speaks for itself. I know that God sees the effort I’ve put into this business and the genuine care I have for my customers. I’m not worried about compensation—because blessings come in ways we don’t always expect.
But if you think you can just drop people who’ve gone to bat for you without a second thought and walk away like nothing happened, think again. The new agent? Let’s hope they show you the same loyalty, dedication, and expertise that I did for so many years. And if they don’t? Well… that’s just life coming full circle.
PS. Real estate professionals, value your time and energy. Work with people who respect you, and don’t waste your loyalty on those who see you as disposable. Some bridges are meant to burn.
